How Clever Fashion Can Make Us Think

How Clever Fashion Can Make Us Think

When art makes you think practically and not only abstractly, I think the artist got something right. And through a Meetup group in Sydney I came across Marina DeBris and her Trashion Show for the opening of Sculpture by the Sea in Sydney. The fashion show displayed clothes (or better, artworks) made out of trash that was sadly found on the local beaches. I think that everyone would agree that we as humans have missed the target and been careless with our rubbish that is now destroying our once beautiful planet. The fashion show was beautiful and confronting at the same time and I hope it will make us pause and think.

I really enjoyed having the opportunity to shoot this event even though I found it very challenging as it was a bit out of my usual field of photography. The challenges started right at the beginning with the rainy weather and my not so waterproof gear, as well as my choice of lenses. But I love being challenged and I have lots of ideas how I can improve my work and, therefore, be better at telling the real story with my images. And that's all that matters, right?

All photos were shot with an Olympus OM-D E-M10 body, a M.ZUIKO 40-150mm F4.0-5.6 R lens and a Panasonic Lumix G 20mm F1.7 ASPH lens.
